At BlaQPiQ, we've always loved the idea of free-range, ethically sourced pork and beef products. Finally, we've found the right place to start our journey. When we arrived in the Okanagan on a ski retreat in 2019 we knew this would be the place we'd realise our dream. After long negotiations, we've secured leases on 2 properties in the lush foothills of the B.X. and we're now actively moving towards our first herd of the crown jewel of the porcine family, the European Black Pig.
This beautiful animal was originally bred in the late 1800's from a combination of Devon and Cornwall pigs. The largest of the breed can grow to 360kg which make them ideal for products like the much sought after Iberian-style shaved ham (seen right). We're sure that after one try you'll notice the difference!
Both Evan and Tom organically came to the ethical farming industry but via different pathways. Evan has a commitment to ethical, clean feed and butchering practices from his 5 years in the organic meat industry. Tom was raised on a beef/dairy farm and saw the dark side of the meat industry. Together they've chosen to take their quest for clean organic meat sources and processing to places the industry has never seen.
We're planning to offer a number of high quality meat products ranging from Iberian-style hams to farm fresh full sides from our ethical on-site abattoir
